The firm’s practice consists of a Transaction Group and Litigation Group. Practice areas in the Transaction Group include energy law, real estate and general business matters, with a special emphasis on oil, gas and mineral law, land title matters, acquisitions and divestitures, exploration agreements, joint operating agreement disputes and arbitration. Attorneys in the Transaction Group work daily with well-known oil and gas industry clients on a wide range of matters, and have served as lead counsel in numerous significant transactions with a collective transaction value in excess of $1.5 billion.

The Litigation Group includes attorneys with significant experience in all levels of state and federal courts. Each possesses the knowledge and skills to pursue clients’ claims and defenses in the most aggressive and creative manners possible, but without the constraints imposed upon larger “institutional” law firms. Above all, the professionals in the Litigation Group are problem solvers rather than only litigators.
Attorneys in the firm’s Litigation Group pursue the client’s interests both in and out of the courtroom, applying an extraordinary level of expertise regardless of whether the matter is routine or involves the challenges of a critical bet-the-business matter. Although we are comfortable in the courtroom setting, we understand the vagaries and uncertainty of litigation and that the best chance for success may be found outside the courtroom. We focus on problem solving and solutions, and only on litigation strategies when necessary. Due to our extensive trial experience, we frequently are able to craft the most favorable trial approach based on our knowledge of the jurisdiction involved. We also pride ourselves on creating fee structures that align our incentives with those of our clients in order to maximize value and minimize costs.
The firm’s litigators have extensive experience in complex matters, having tried cases in the state and federal courts and in commercial arbitrations throughout the Southwest and other jurisdictions around the country. We provide litigation counsel to businesses of all sizes and in all industries. We use our experience in the real estate, bankruptcy, banking employee benefits and employment areas to handle commercial and business disputes involving contractual issues, business torts, trade practices and regulation disputes, financial institution litigation, and corporate governance and compliance among many other topics.
We try more cases than many larger firms. When necessary, we are not reluctant to pursue trial rather than negotiation and settlement. Speed and flexibility are also hallmarks of our practice, and we excel at securing – and defending against – emergency injunctions to protect our clients’ interests and assets.
